CB&Q Class MW 212930
Title:  CB&Q Class MW 212930
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad class MW (former Class HC-1) 212930 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in November 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This car was likely built at Galesburg in 1940. That assumption is based on the trucks. They appear to be National Type B (50 ton), as opposed to National Type B-1 (70 ton). The difference is two inches ( 5 foot 6 inch = Type B, 5 foot 8 inch = Type B-1 ) and larger journal boxes. The spotting feature I looked for was a few ribs where the journal box meets the arched frame, present on the Type B-1, missing (as seen here) on the Type B. That being said, the only CB&Q HC-1's to have Type B were the 100 cars in series 180000-180099 built at Galesburg in 1940. The car is stenciled for SAND SERVICE BETWEEN CLYDE AND (painted over), and to the right it is stenciled HEAVY BAD ORDER CB 10-79.
