Partial Caption: "Through the columned entrance to Pennsylvania Station on Seventh Avenue in New York City may walk a passenger for a through train to New Orleans or a commuter to Long Island, for from this gateway one can take trains to more places than from any other station in the country." Penn Station opened for business during 1910 but was demolished in 1965, a mere 55 years later. Alas.... |

Partial Caption: "Engine 4726 is of the P-5a classification, and in this photo is rolling a scheduled fast freight westward near Colonia, N.J., 12.9 miles west of Newark on the busiest part of the New York Division." Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4726 is a P-5A (2-C-2) built by Baldwin-Westinghouse during December of 1932, rated at 3,750 horsepower, and retired in May of 1963 after 31 years of faithful service. |
