Once a hot spot |
Description: |
This fascinating structure was once a junction for the mighty B&O in southwestern Ohio. Imagine being here in 1955; the line to the right was the road's Washington to St Louis mainline; it hosted six First-Class passenger trains a day with great names like National Limited, Metropolitan and Diplomat. Most of them didn't stop here- but blew through, perhaps picking up orders as they raced across the country. There was also a daily Pittsburgh-Louisville local that used the line to the left; it was carded at 4:45 westbound and 2:27 PM east. There were also freights of course, but now both lines are operated by the Indiana & Ohio- and the former main runs only east to Greenfield. |

Former PRR depot, London OH |
Description: |
The former PRR depot at London OH, looking east towards Columbus. The old Pennsy Panhandle main runs in front; it doesn't go much further west before turning into a rail trail. The NYC, now used by the NS, is behind. The signals guard the point where the NS comes off the old Pennsy line and turns onto the NYC for Dayton and Cincinnati. Passenger traffic wasn't very heavy here even in 1950; the NYC, who had an adjacent depot, only had on train a day stop while several other Cincinnati-Cleveland trains ran through. Pennsy wasn't much better as while the schedule shows up to eight Pittsburgh-St Louis trains ran by without stopping although a Columbus-Richmond local did stop at 2:37PM eastbound and 9:10PM eastbound. |

Trains Never Die |
Description: |
How many railfans have dreamed of finding an abandoned locomotive in the woods? Here's one- FLSX 1, an NW2 of Pennsy origin, apparantly fated to spend the rest of its days trapped on a lost piece of trackage in Hamilton OH. It's last owner was Great Miami; but it's now pretty much left to graffiti 'artists' and nature. |
