This 2-8-2 was built by Baldwin in July of 1919. Original specs - class K-55, light USRA Mikado, 63" drivers, 26x30" cylinders, 200 psi boiler pressure, engine wt of 284,300 and tractive effort of 54,724 lb. The loco was converted to an oil burner and engine wt rose to 290,00 lb. The loco was finally retire after nearly 29 years of service and sold for scrap in July of 1953.No date or location was given but the photographer was WM S. Kuba. |

Exact date is unknown. Scanned from a 11x17 print dated circa 1912, obtained from Antique America, Davenport, Iowa. BLW 2-8-2 #2566 Class K57 in foreground retired in 1940 and #1639 in background appears to be a Brooks 2-8-0 Class C39 built in 1903 or 1904. This per "Rock Island Motive Power 1933-1955" by Lloyd E. Stagner book. |
