Duluth, MN Union Depot
Description:
The northwest and southwest walls of the magnificent Union Depot at Duluth, MN on 24 Jun. '16. Built by the SP&D, NP, DSS&A, D&IR, WC, and D&W. Designed in the French Norman style by Peabody & Sterns, it was completed in 1892 at a cost of $615,000. Passenger service ended in '69. It was purchased from the BN ca. '70. Since '73 it has been home to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, the St. Louis Co. Historic Society, and several arts organizations. Regular passenger service, in the form of Amtrak, returned from '74 or '77 until 7 Apr. '85. Passenger service again returned in '90 when the North Shore Scenic Railroad began offering excursions.
