CSXT 2275
A CSX local heads back to the yard in Terre Haute, Indiana, on July 11th, 2016. Leading the train is CSXT 2275, a road slug that began life as Chesapeake & Ohio GP35 3574. Later renumbered C&O 4414, it became CSXT 4414 when that railroad was created. In the very late 1980s, it was sent to VMV in Paducah, KY, to be rebuilt into a road slug. Slugs do not posssess a diesel prime mover (to produce electricity), and to operate they must be connected to a complete diesel-electric locomotive, called the mother, which provides the needed electrical power to operate the traction motors, and the motor controls. In this case, CSXT 2275 is drawing power from CSXT GP40-2 6442 (originally Baltimore & Ohio 4428).
