Excursion. Here is an original photo that I took at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, around four-thirty on 17 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5898 and three more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5898 was constructed in March of 1951. They've paused at the Station with the "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" ~ sponsored by the Lancaster Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society ~ for a crew change before returning to Lancaster. Partially visible in the background are some of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops; a small portion of the cast-iron 12th Street Footbridge is visible at the right. (#9 of 10) |
