PRR 9453, FF-16, 1965 |
| Description: |
Oil Power. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in La Grange, Illinois, on 17 April 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9453 and #9498. Both are FF-16's built by Fairbanks-Morse, rated at 1,600 horsepower each, and retired in April of 1965; #9453 was built in September of 1950 while #9498 was built in November of 1950. Looks to me like they're about to be traded-in for younger (i.e. GM-EMD) models! |

PRR 9453, FF-16, 1965 |
| Description: |
La Grange. Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in La Grange, Illinois, in June of 1965. Partially visible here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9453, an FF-16 built by Fairbanks-Morse in September of 1950, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in April of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, it's parked at the GM-EMD plant as a trade-in for newer diesel-electric locomotives. Brad Mann Collection. |
