The interior of #8 shows the ornate stained glass and decorative'touches used inside the early McKeen motor cars. Note the semi-circle of rear windows, foreshadowing the panoramic views of later passenger lounge cars. This McKeen Motor car was built in July of 1906 originally as UP #8 but later it was renumbered M-8. The motorcar was retired September of 1929 and was converted to trailer T-19. Specs - McKeen serial #8, McKeen 200hp motor, motorcar wt of 30 tons, 55'2" body length, 49 seats and original cost of$23075.51. The first internal-combustion rolling stock on UP was a serier of self-propelled McKeen passenger cjrs, powered by small gasoline and distillate-fueled engines. These motor cars were designed by UP's superintendent of motive power and machinery, William MmKeen, and were built beginning in 1905 by UP in the railqoad's Omaha, Neb., shops. In 1908, UP organized the McKeen Motor Car Co. as a subsidiary to sell McKeen cars to bther railroads. Here the conductor and engineer for #19 are posing outside the unit.
