Catskill Mountain caboose #671 is a historic N-11e class transfer caboose with a legacy tied to the New York Central (NYC) and Penn Central (PC) railroads before its preservation. According to an AI search, it was built in 1969, it was part of the second class of transfer "hacks" (cabooses) constructed after the merger of the New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroads to form Penn Central. It is one of 75 cars designated as class N-11e. These were designed specifically for local switching and transfer freights, featuring shorter end platforms and truck centers compared to previous N-6 and N-9 models. It primarily served on the Catskill Mountain Branch during the transition from the New York Central to Penn Central era. In 1996, the caboose was donated to the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum (R&GVRRM) for preservation. No photographer was listed for the photo which is now part of my rr collection. |
