CV RS11 3605 |
Description: |
Central Vermont Railway Alco RS11 3605 in Portland, Maine on May 9, 1984, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 3605 was built to run long hood forward by MLW in 1956 (c/n 81939) for the DW&P a CN subsidiary, transferred to the CV in 1965, transferred back to the DW&P in 1968, and then back to the CV in 1979. This shows a variation on the Model RS-11 design, also known as the Specification DL-701. The fuel tank has been turned transversly (90 degrees from the usual), as have the air tanks. Dynamic brakes were located in the short hood (the vents are on the other side). The DW&P RS11's were also equipped with a lightweight version of the standard swing bolster truck, which eliminated the elliptical springs. This unique truck was originated by Canadian supplier DOFASCO. |
