NS out of service line in Childersburg in 1998 |
Description: |
Norfolk Southern had put their line from Childersburg to Birmingham, AL out of service in 1994 due to flood damage from tropical storm Alberto. They re-routed trains via Atlanta, GA and decided to keep it going. Sometime in 1998 NS reopened this line. If NS would had completely ripped up this line here to Birmingham, they would have been in big trouble since this is NS' only by-pass around Atlanta to Macon, GA. |

Former Central of Georgia bridge over US 27 in Pine Mountain, GA. The ROW was apart of the Southern and Norfolk Southern's R Line that ran from Columbus to Raymond, GA by the CofG and cut back to Allie, Ga in the 1970s where it remained. The line was sold to Georgia Southwestern RR around 2007 I think and was taken up a year or so after when GSWR could rekindle to the Georgia Pacific business that was taken over completely by CSX off their Lineville Sub. GSWR sold the line for dismantling from MP 12 north to Allie, Ga. |

Description: |
Looking north on the former GSWR road bed at the Wades Road crossing. All the tracks are gone. The old Seaboard DDT house was in this area just north of this crossing but it appears it has been taken out too. |

AOK (ex-RI) ROW. |
Description: |
the end of the line of the ex-RI main. The line had ripped up beyond this point until Danville, AR where it picks up and operated by the Little Rock & Western RR. The trackage to the right isthe KCS/AOK (ex-RI) interchange track. I am glad the interlocking signal on the ex-RI ROW was left alone! |
