Chicago & North Western Railway F7 423 westbound at about Damen and Western Avenues in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in October 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The bridge in the background was the Chicago Transit Authority (built in 1895 by the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad Company) Northwest branch, removed and all but abandon after the Congress (Eisenhower) Expressway was completed around 1958. This bridge remained because both the Milwaukee Road and the C&NW had installed signals on the structure. |

An unidentified rail fan took the photos in this album of Chicago & North Western F7A #407 while it was serving in commuter service in Chicago, IL. The loco was built by EMD in July of 1949 originally as CNW #4072A but later renumbered. It served first as freight power and then refitted for commuter service in Chicago in the late 1970's-early 1980's. Note the white CNW building is behind the commuter train. It then bounced through several rosters. |
